SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT – SPECIALIST AUTISM SCHOOL
High Barnet, North London | Long-term opportunity

Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely make a difference?
We are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in High Barnet, supporting children and young people with autism across primary and secondary age groups, as well as older learners up to 19.
Why consider this school?

  • A specialist setting: Work with autistic pupils in an environment designed around their individual learning, communication and sensory needs.
  • A welcoming ethos: Join a school that values neurodiversity, celebrates individual strengths and aims to help every pupil feel understood, respected and supported.
  • A rewarding role: Help pupils develop confidence, communication, independence and essential life skills.
  • Potential for ongoing work: The school has established specialist provision and strong demand for places. This could be an excellent opportunity for an SEN TA seeking a longer-term placement and the chance to build meaningful relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Develop your experience: Build your skills in autism-informed education and specialist SEN support.

The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with autism in their learning and daily routines.
  • Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging, accessible activities.
  • Help pupils manage sensory needs, transitions and communication.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement.
  • Provide patient, consistent and compassionate support.

Who are we looking for?
We would love to hear from candidates who have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly autism.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils reach their potential.

Relevant school, college, care or support-work experience may be beneficial.

The school is based in High Barnet, with access to the Northern line and nearby National Rail services.
