A specialist secondary SEN school in East Finchley is seeking an experienced and passionate Engagement for Learners Lead to join their team from September. This full-time, temp-to-perm opportunity is ideal for a practitioner with strong expertise in supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
The school offers a nurturing, highly structured environment for students with complex needs, including autism, SLD, and PMLD. With small class sizes, a multidisciplinary approach, and a strong emphasis on communication, sensory engagement, and personalised learning, the school is committed to ensuring every student can access meaningful and enriching educational experiences.
The Role:

  • Lead on engagement strategies across the school for learners with SLD and PMLD
  • Develop and implement an inclusive, sensory-based curriculum tailored to complex needs
  • Support and coach staff in delivering high-quality, engagement-focused teaching approaches (e.g. intensive interaction, sensory integration, communication strategies)
  • Monitor and evaluate student engagement and progress, using appropriate frameworks and assessment tools
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, support staff, and families to ensure a holistic approach to learning
  • Champion a culture where every interaction is seen as an opportunity for learning and connection

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experienced SEN teacher or leader with a strong background in SLD and PMLD
  • Proven experience in developing engagement strategies for learners with complex needs
  • Deep understanding of communication approaches such as PECS, AAC, and intensive interaction
  • Confident in leading staff training and driving whole-school practice
  • Compassionate, reflective, and committed to inclusive education
