Teaching Qualification

To work in the UK as a teacher you will need to be a qualified teacher in your home country. This will typically be:

  • Bachelor of Education with your subject area, e.g. Bachelor of Primary Education or Special Needs
  • Undergraduate degree with your subject area with either a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or a Combined Degree Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education.

If you have completed a teaching degree outside the EEA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the US you will need to have you qualifications assessed by UK Naric.

Document Checklist

We are required to collect a number of documents to ensure you are eligible to work in the UK.

Before you arrival:

  • CV outlining your teaching experience. Ask about our CV Guide

  • Certified signed copy of your original Teaching Qualification OR certified signed copy of a final university transcript or Teaching Certificate
  • A certified copy of the photo page and signature page of your passport/s
  • A certified copy of your Driver’s License

  • Proof of Current Address (a current utility bill or bank statement)
  • Two recent, teaching, written references (within 3 years) or names of referees. In addition these references need to be written by superiors such as a Head Teacher or Principal and at least one needs to be from your last teaching placement. If you have not worked within the last three months prior to application we will need a character or business reference.

Upon Arrival:

  • Proof of Current Address (a current utility bill or bank statement)
  • A certified copy of your visa

  • Passport style photo (we take this at your UK interview)
  • Signed Terms of Engagement and Contract were applicable
  • Application for DBS

  • Overseas Police Checks (if we haven’t already viewed them)

Police Checks

All teachers will need to provide a National Police Clearance.

  • Your police clearance has to be dated NO more than six months old by the time you arrive to start work in a UK school.
  • If you have previously resided in another country for longer than 6 months you will also need to provide a Police Clearance from this country as well.
  • Prior to your commencement of work in England you will be required to complete a UK DBS check. There is a cost involved with these checks and they can take some time to process. You are required to take your DBS to every school you work in.
